Ploughing traffic delays after man seriously injured in Laois crash

The thousands of people on their way to the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co Laois, are experiencing delays after a serious accident this morning.

The serious road crash happened near Mountmellick before 7am on Wednesday morning. The route is being used by some of those heading to the Ploughing site.

The crash involved a motorbike and a delivery van and occurred at Mullaghanard Crossroads, Rosenallis, near Summergrove and Mountmellick.

The male motorbike rider is understood to have suffered serious but not life threatening injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore.

The van driver was uninjured, according to Laois Gardaí.

The collision took place at 6.30am. Gardaí closed the road temporarily. It was expected to reopen by 9am.

Gardaí have appealed to any witnesses to please come forward to them.
