250 pilgrims to pass through Cahir and Cashel on St. Declan's Way

250 pilgrims to pass through Cahir and Cashel on St. Declan's Way

It has taken some time to get to this stage but Knockmealdown Active’s promotion of St Declan’s Way will see over 250 people walk the Cashel to Cahir stage of the route this Saturday, March 31st.

The group have been promoting the Irish Camino 100km walk along the St Declan’s pilgrim path for some years now and a lot of work has been done locally for walkers along the route.

Cllr Andy Moloney says that planning for this day doesn’t happen by chance and many people have persevered to date to promote the Cashel to Ardmore pilgrim path.

Cahir Tidy Towns, as well as Cashel Tidy Towns, have both constructed focal points in their towns and the St Declan’s Grove in Cahir now comes into a league of its own. Those who donated to this project can now be proud of been part of a fantastic venture.

This was a big undertaking by the group who had the vision some years ago to promote the route and be ready for the new Camino.

While this Saturday is not the official launch, it is however a big boost for the Knockmealdown Active group who will lead the 5-stage walk on the last Saturday of each month (see for full details). Passports will be stamped in Cahir House Hotel on Saturday when the weary pilgrims reach the town.

Moloney says that this is exciting news and welcomes people from all over the country to Cahir. Dog owners and motorists along the route are being asked to be patient as walkers will be scattered along the route at different levels of fitness.
