Tipperary teams win three golds at Munster Community Games finals at UL
Tipperary competitors got a share of the spoils at the Munster finals of the Aldi Community Games Winter Programme in University of Limerick on Saturday winning Munster titles in three events and runners up in two.
It was ladies day in the golden circle when the u13 girls Indoor Soccer team from Cashel Rosegeen, U13 girls Handball team from Cloughjordan and u16 girls Table Tennis also from Cloughjordan all won gold medals.
Ballina-Boher u11 mini Rugby Team and New Inn u13 boys Table Tennis Team won Silver.
Cashel Indoor Soccer team consisting of Grace Fitzpatrick Ryan (Capt) Hannah Downey, Emer Dwan, Grace Flanagan, Maia Sullivan and Molly Gilmartin, had a fine victory over Limerick (Bruff)in the semi final and defeated Cork (Skibbereen) in the final to the delight of their managers Paul Flanagan and Wendy Fitzpatrick.
Cloughjordan u13 Girls team of Aoife Williams, Christine Percy, Hannah Grace, Lucy Gould, Sarah Williams deprived Clare of a clean sweep in Handball Alley. They beat Limerick (Broadford) in the semi final and had a decisive win over (Kilkishen) Clare. Manager Willie Percy is looking forward to returning with his champions to contest the National Finals at the end of May.
Cloughjordan u16 girls Table Tennis team of Ava Austin, Lisa Mooney, Robyn Fitzgerald, Hannah Austin beat (Caherdavin) Limerick in their semi final and (Cratloe) Clare in the final. These are a really good girls team that have progressed from success under 13.
Ballina- Boher Rugby team members Ryan Angley, (Captain) Oliver Finn, Tadgh McKeogh, Matthew Ryan, Gary Slevin, Oisin Rowan, Enda Tormey, Stephen Bissette, Sean Hayes, Dean Carey, Luke McKeogh, were worthy winners of silver medals. The boys gave a great performance but unfortunately the trys eluded them with a final score of 3-1 in favour of (Regional) Limerick.
Liam O'Shaughnessy was absent. Their manager was Vic Angley.
New Inn boys table tennis team of Jack Nugent, Conor Hayes and Sean Hayes won Silver medals following a narrow defeat by (Adare) Limerick in the final.
One of the most nail biting battles of the day was between New Inn u13 girls Basketball team who were only down by 1 point to Caherdavin, Limerick with a minute to go in the semi final which resulted in these great girls receiving Certificates of Participation.
Certificates of Participation were also presented to the following teams who all gave a very good account of themselves and will have benefited from the experience.
