Tipperary church incident: witnesses shocked by disturbance outside Nenagh church

St Mary of the Rosary Church in Nenagh

A number of people were shocked by scenes in the vicinity of Nenagh's St Mary of the Rosary Church this Sunday in which a group of youths got involved in a dispute.

A witness told the Tipperary Star that they were waiting outside the church when a man wearing no shirt began abusing others in the area.

A dispute ensued during which firewood that was on sale in the church grounds to raise funds for the parish was thrown by those involved.

"It was incredible. I couldn't believe what was happening. They began throwing the logs at each other. It was lucky none of the other members of the public were injured or cars damaged," said a witness to the incident.

The incident happened after 12.15pm Mass.

A Garda source confirmed that they responded to a public order incident in the vicinity of the church yesterday afternoon.

The local clergy were contacted by the Tipperary Star but had not responded at the time of writing.
