Is lightening up and getting joy into your life one of your goals? Is there really something to be happy about? Aren’t our daily lives filled with sufficient cause for worry? How are we going to pay the mortgage? What did you say happened to the car? Who did you say you are bringing home to dinner? The list is endless.
The point here is simple, life is difficult. That’s the way it is. It is filled with problems. The question is! Do we want to moan and whine and complain about it, or do we want to move on? It’s not a new question; we either make ourselves happy or miserable.
The really happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery when on detour. The happiest people don’t worry too much about whether life is fair or not, they just get on with it. You may throw your eyes up to heaven with my simple tip for INNER PEACE. Bin the computer, the TV and mobile phone. Breathe deeply. This my friend is the secret to inner peace.
OK! Let’s say you don’t want to bin computer, TV or phone, then at least one day in the month try and shut off your television, computer and phone. “FREE YOUR MIND”. Be present. Notice your surroundings. Make eye contact with strangers. Engage in conversation. Get connected FACE-TO-FACE. It’s good for your soul. Refuse to gossip and complain. End the comparison game. Nothing good comes from participating in these things. They will suck the energy, life and joy out of your existence.
Sometimes you feel down. If you think one day you are just going to ‘snap out of it’ – that probably won’t happen. If you hate being down in the dumps more often than not, if you want to re-ignite your motivation or conquer depression you have to grab the reigns of your life and get going in the right direction. Somehow you have got to this point. I’ve experienced lengthy periods of the ‘blues’ and I have witnessed others in my life deal with depression. So I ask you a simple question – When It Comes To Joy, Are You A Victim “Or” Victorious??
You really have a choice: To be happy or not to be happy. For a period of time, I woke up in the morning thinking, what’s the use? I wanted to pull the covers over my head and stay there until I felt better. But I learned that wasn’t going to happen on its own. Of course we don’t want to run away from life and we all have our challenges, but adding more joy, laughter and fun gives your heart lightness. A light-hearted attitude opens the heart, and when the challenges come they can be handled with more grace.
I personally know for sure how hard it can be to focus on fun when life is painful and not going the way we want. However, our focus is everything and I mean it, I truly do. When we focus on things that don’t go well we attract more of it. So even if you feel down and in despair you have to get out of that place and find something that you could celebrate, even a little bit.
Try and have a sense of humour; take yourself less seriously. One essential characteristic that helps us laugh is not taking ourselves too seriously. We have all known the classic tight-jawed ‘SOURPUSS’ who takes everything with deathly seriousness and never laughs at anything, NO FUN THERE EH??
If you never have a ‘bad’ day you are probably doing something wrong. If you never had a ‘Good’ day you are definitely doing something wrong!!!!
