The new CEO of Shannon Airport Authority, Neil Pakey, is to take up an invite from Cllr Virginia O’Dowd to visit North Tipperary to see at first hand what the area has to offer.
“I invited Mr Pakey to visit at the last meeting of the Mid West Regional Authority in Nenagh and I am delighted he has accepted the offer,” she said.
The Labour councillor said that Mr Pakey addressed the meeting on tourism, but concentrated on the Atlantic Drive and Limerick being the city of Culture for 2014.
“I couldn’t let it go by without picking him up on the fact that North Tipperary is also in the Mid West and that we had so much to offer tourists, from scenery, food, music, heritage, drives, cycling, walking and so much more,” she said.
“I am conscious that he has only been in his post for the past five months and has made a significant contribution to tourism already through extra flights at the airport. However, I wanted to make sure that some of those extra passengers come to Tipperary,” said Cllr O’Dowd.
She intends liaising with Lough Derg Marketing Strategy Group and the county manager, Joe MacGrath, to draw up an itinerary for Mr Pakey’s visit.
“It is very important that we develop a good working relationship with Shannon Airport Authority and I urge people to use Shannon as often as possible,” said Cllr O’Dowd
