Figures just released from the CSO show that an extra 800 people are employed in the Motor Industry*
Earlier this year, the SIMI also announced that an additional 2,200 jobs had been created.
These 800 jobs come on the back of an increase in new car sales of 14% in the first quarter of the year.
Every new job is a net gain of €23,000** so these 800 jobs represent a saving of €14 million for the economy.
SIMI’s Director General says “Undoubtedly these jobs have been created because of the boost Scrappage has given the industry.”
“Not only has Scrappage helped small businesses get back on their feet but it has also meant that people who had previously lost their jobs are being reemployed back into the industry and this is the real benefit of the Scheme.”
