NORTH Tipperary Tourism Company (NTTCL) organised a tourism networking event for tourism product providers which culminated in a tour of historic Cloughjordan House and Cookery School, a family business run by Peter and Sarah Baker.
The networking event, which was held in Cloughjordan, was attended by tourism product providers in North Tipperary. Some of the accommodation providers that attended included Willowbrook B&B, Williamsferry B&B, Terryglass Cottages, Maryville B&B, Abbeyview B&B and The Castle B&B, while some of the product providers that attended included the OPW, The Pantry Cafe, The Derg Inn, Larkin’s in Garrykennedy and the Art and Healing Centre in Ballinaclough and Fancroft Mill in Roscrea.
Tourism product providers were given a tour of the eco-village. Some of the buildings and initiatives highlighted on the tour included a range of energy efficient housing, Cloughjordan Wood Fired Bakery, the Green Enterprise Centre, the district heating and solar systems, and the community farm. Free tours take place every Sunday at 3pm from the entrance to the village.
Cloughjordan House has recently rebranded itself and has received Fáilte Ireland accreditation as a Historic House. Tourism providers received a tour of the 400-year-old house from Peter Baker, whose grandfather purchased the house in the early 1900s. The newest part of the family business, the Cloughjordan House Cookery School located adjacent to the main house. The cookery school is run by Sarah Baker, Peter’s wife, who prepared a homemade lunch for the tourism product providers. The cookery school runs courses throughout the year and Cloughjordan House has expanded into the wedding market, offering the house as a venue with a capacity for up to 70 guests. To conclude the networking event, Attracta Lyons, North Tipperary Tourism Company & North Tipperary County Council, gave a brief outline of the promotional work the tourism company is engaged in for 2013. Ms. Lyons highlighted that the networking event allowed tourism providers to see the range of products which Cloughjordan has to offer a visitor to the area which includes Cloughjordan House & Cookery School, the Ecovillage, a range of festivals run throughout the year, local walks, Courtyard Antiques, the Black Sheep Studio, Sheelagh na Gig Bookstore and Café, The FoodStore, as well as the Thomas MacDonagh Heritage Centre on the Main Street with an opening date scheduled for this summer.
Attendees were also made aware of the recently launched North Tipperary Calendar of Events 2013 which includes over 70 festivals and events being held throughout the county. Over 50 of these events will be Gatherings.
