Almost 90 per cent of houses in North Tipperary have been surveyed for the installation of water meters, according to director of water services Marcus O’Connor.
He told county councillors that it was looking like North Tipp will be one of the first counties to start water metering. Mr O’Connor said that it was hoped the contactors would start installing the actual meters from mid-August. The meters will remain the property of Irish Water and it will be responsible for replacing damaged meters. While there was no pricing system in place, water charges will be introduced in 2015, he said.
