Councillor Carroll stated that the ESB Profits for the End of 2012 was 327 Millon Euros and Electricity Costs have increased by up to 20% over Recent Times which was extremely worrying for the Business & Residential Sector.

Ireland has now the Second highest Electricity within the European Union and the State stands to make a Dividend of 78 Millon Euros resulting from the Excessive Profits within the ESB. Councillor Carroll spoke of the ever increasing costs of Setting up New Indigenous Business & Maintaining Existing Indigenous Business and the Significant Energy Costs were a Major Obstacle in trying to Maintain Existing Business & Set up New Business throughout the Country.

There have been Approx 18,500 Electricity Disconnections Annually over the past Three Years throughout the Country and this is having a Significant and Negative affect on Struggling Business,s and is also Causing huge Hardship for the every day Householder who are trying Desperately to cope with the current Financial Climate.

Councillor Carroll has Called on the Minister & his Government Colleagues to Work Aggressively with the Energy Regulator to Ensure that the ever increasing costs of Electricity is Halted, and to pursue a Gradual Reduction in Electricity Costs which will Benefit Business and Residential Sector in these Difficult Economic Climate for all.
