The Cashel Chamber of Commerce is seeking tenders from registered electricians for an exciting project to redevelop the Town’s Christmas lighting. The Chamber President, Sean Laffey said “This project is subject to rules and condition given in greater detail at E tenders on www.etenders.gov.ie, a search for Cashel Chamber of Commerce will bring you to the right page.”
The notice became active on E Tenders on the 17th of July. The deadline for receipt of sealed tenders is Wednesday August 8th at 3:30 pm. Sean said “There is no appeal process available with this tender and no discussions will be entered into between the Chamber and businesses that are not successful in their application. So I would like to thank all those electricians who have applied so far for all the efforts they have put in.”
The Cashel Chamber of Commerce is embarking on a 3-year plan to upgrade the Town’s Christmas lights. Year 1 will require the design, supply, erection, maintenance and dissembling of lighting on Main Street Cashel, the lighting should span the main street in at least 16 passes. The Chamber is open to design ideas, which should consider the whole of the town in their scope. Erection of the current lighting stock will also be required on a number of other streets within the town.
Sean Laffey added that “On erection the works should be monitored and serviced by the selected company. From our experience last year we need to ensure that faults are serviced within 1 hour of their identification, an ability to service faults within that 1 hour call out period is essential. We have pushed the deadline forward a month to allow electricians to avail of lower cost stock from their suppliers. This is a major project and would have significant short term employment implications for the winning business.”
Thanks to guidance from E Tenders, the Chamber has put in some tough conditions but is confident there are enough competent and creative electricians to be able to bring back the sparkle to Cashel’s Christmas. “It’s not simply a matter of throwing money at the problem, we need quality work with quality materials and we want the winners of the contract to stand over the job, we want them to take some pride in the pleasure they will be bringing to the town. The lights are just part of the larger project, we want to market Cashel as a great place visit this Christmas, not just for shopping, but for cultural activities too” said Sean Laffey.
The Christmas lights should be fully in place and working by 6th December 2012. The lights should be removed from the town-scape by January 8th. There is a possibility of extending the contact to 3 years if the work and servicing record is exemplary. This is a significant investment from the Cashel Chamber of Commerce and is subject to an element of possible LEADER funding. All suppliers must have up to date Tax Clearance certificates and all appropriate Technical and Safety certificates must be current and valid. Disruption to businesses and traffic should be kept to a minimum and this may call for some out of hours working. The total value of the contract is likely to be not less than €25,000. The Chamber expects all work will be to the highest standards.
