THE reaction to free in parking in Nenagh’s car parks on Saturdays has been “generally very positive,” Cllr Tom Moylan told the March meeting of Nenagh Town Council. The initiative was brought in at the start of February to encourage more people to shop in the town centre, and augments the parking initiative that sees free on-street parking until 10am each weekday.
“Businesses have seen a pick up on Saturdays, but there have been a few complaints,” Cllr Moylan said. “People say they don’t know that parking is free. We should have it well signed at the entrances to the town.”
He told Mayor Lalor McGee, that businesses also had a job to do to advertise the initiative and to promote themselves.
Town manager Marcus O’Connor agreed and said the council was replacing the old signs in the car parks.
Town engineer Peter Fee told Cllr Conor Delaney that the council would look at placing a sign at Bachelor’s Walk showing there would be no left turn from the new car park on O’Rahilly Street.
