Thurles parade is put back to 4:00pm
Change of time is to allow further time for trading on Saturday.
A special meeting of the Thurles St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee was held on Thursday evening to discuss a deferral of the 2018 parade from the 17th March to the 18th.
Also in attendance was a Garda Sergeant representing the views of an Garda Síochana.
The committee discussed the request from the Thurles Chamber of Commerce and considered the implications of a change of date with the strong possibility of a GAA match to be held on Sunday the 18th. On advisement the 18th March was ruled out.
However, in order to facilitate the request and to limit the impact on the Thurles traders it was agreed to push back the start of the parade to 4pm on March 17th. This, the committee feels will allow trading to take place for the better part of the Saturday trading calendar.
"We hope this meets the needs of the Thurles Traders and allows for the provision of an annual community event in the Town. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the businesses of Thurles for their continued sponsorship and support of The Thurles St. Patrick's Day Parade," a statement from the committee says.
