The funeral cortege for the late Joan Kinane arrives at Rossmore Church.

Joan's untimely passing has 'ruptured and turned upside down, a whole community' the packed Church hears.

Tragic ride-on lawnmower accident victim, Joan Kinane, Toureen, Rossmore was laid to rest this afternoon in Rossmore cemetery, beside Christ Our Saviour Church when an enormous turnout meant that the Churchyard was packed with sympathisers, not to mention the Church itself.

Mother of four, and wife to Sean, Joan died following an accident with a ride-on lawnmower at her home of Friday evening shocking her heartbroken family and an entire community in the process. Hundreds of mourners turned out for the removal of her Remains yesterday evening (Wednesday) at Hayes Funeral Chapel in Clonoulty, and the Church in Rossmore was packed to capacity as her brother Rev Fr Tom Dunne, CC in Boherlahan and Dualla paid tribute to a lady who was in the prime of her life.

"What happened last Friday evening is best summed up by the words in St John's Gospel - disaster and annihilation. Because, our sister Joan has been snatched from us in the prime of her life and has left us feeling annihilated. There has been great trauma and tragedy since Friday evening but we have seen the hand and face of Christ in all of the people who have come to offer their support since," an emotional Fr Dunne said.

Joan, a nurse, was an integral part of the community in Rossmore - a member of the Board of Management of the local school; Secretary of the Parents Association; a Eucharistic Minister and Minister of the Word, and a good, thoughtful and kind neighbour,  she was described by retired Archdeacon Matty McGrath, as a humble lady, a great wife, mother, sister and friend to many.

At a time when the clergy are "getting long on the tooth", Joan Kinane was a lady who would have been a magnificent Church administrator in any parish, Fr McGrath said.

Survived by her husband Sean, her adoring family Shane, Aoife, Gráinne and Moira; sister Brenda, brothers Fr. Tom (Boherlahan / Dualla) John, Paddy and Dermot, relatives and many friends, Joan Kinane was laid to rest in the eerie silence of a fresh, sunny afternoon neath the soil of the community she gave so much to.
