Thurles paths

Worse than Beirut? Some of the footpaths in Thurles.

The paths have deteriorated to such an extent that they are no longer as bad as Beirut - they are worse than there.

Independent Tipperary County Councillor Jim Ryan claimed that people in Beiruit are now saying that their footpaths are almost as bad as the ones in Thurles, with further deterioration causing huge distress in the Cathedral Town.

Cllr Ryan also claimed, at a meeting of the Templemore Thurles Municipal District this week, that many of the paths are very high, thereby making it very difficult for wheelchair users to access them safely.

Cllr Ryan, who amongst others, has been complaining about the condition of the paths for some time,  was informed by District Engineer, Mr John Jones, that there will be an extensive programme of footpath restoration underway in the coming weeks with considerable expenditure being directed towards the paths in Thurles. Monies will be diverted from three separate sources to help fund the works which are expected to make a major difference to the paths in and around the town centre.
