Liberty Square redevelopment in Thurles will begin next summer.
Final design should be completed by the end of the year, council hears today.
The proposed redevelopment of Liberty Square in Thurles will commence next summer, members of Tipperary County Council have been informed today.
Thurles Town Council had kickstarted the process to provide funding for the complete refurbishment of the centre of Thurles town, prior to its cessation, but Tipperary County Council, through the Templemore Thurles Municipal District has continued the process and it is expected that the full design will now be completed before the end of the year. It is understood that a significant tranche of funding is available for the work and once completed, Liberty Square will be totally transformed.
Director of Services, Mr Matt Shortt, informed members that the full design will be completed by the end of the year and there will be a five month timeframe to have completed tenders.
“We would hope to be in a position to commence construction and redevelopment in the new year and we are targeting May/June/July for the work,” said Mr Shortt who added that the council officials are meeting with consultants this week to discuss the matter further.
