On Wednesday 26th September, Catherine Burke passed away peacefully at the Woodlands Nursing Home, Dundrum, which had become her place of residence for the last three years. Affectionately known as Kitty, she had lived a long life, reaching her 93rd year. She was the eldest of a large family but, with her longevity, most of her siblings had predeceased her. She was blessed with a loving, caring and gentle disposition, which endeared her to those fortunate to make her acquaintance. In her earlier years, she worked in Dublin at the renowned Wynn’s Hotel and later at the Irish Independent Newspapers before taking early retirement to care for her mother in the twilight of her years. Kitty had a great sense of fashion and was always immaculately dressed. On returning to her native place, she became involved in local organisations and took an active part in church-related affairs. She had a deep-rooted faith, nurtured with a prayerful lifestyle over the years. She was always in regular attendance at the local Christmas party for the more mature citizens. Her remains were reposed at Devitt’s Funeral Parlour on Thursday evening before removal to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Boherlahan. Following concelebrated Requiem Mass on Friday, she was laid to rest in Ardmayle Cemetery.
She was sister to the late Willie C.S.Sp., who had died suddenly less than a year to his ordination, Tom, Maureen, John and Breda, and aunt of the late Liam and Kathleen. She is deeply regretted by her brother Pakie, sister Eileen, cousin Bee Dawson, sister-in-law Mary, brother-in-law Jerry, nephews, nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
