The ‘Under the Arches’ fundraiser was another great success for Clonmel Rowing Club
It was all hands to the pump for the members of Clonmel Rowing Club recently as they ran their ergometer extravaganza, ‘Under The Arches’ at The Main Guard in Clonmel.
Each rower had to do a 30-minute shift on the ergometer and with five machines to be manned, Brendan and Sandra Wall were busy coordinating the rowers from 10am to 5pm.
They must have done an excellent job because at the end of the evening more than 108 million metres had been covered by the rowers, a staggering total that far exceeded the distance covered last year.
It has been a fantastic 12 months in the history of Clonmel Rowing Club.
Daire Lynch’s bronze medal at the Paris Olympics brought great joy to the town and the county, the first Olympic medal to come back to County Tipperary in 92 years.
The club has grown its membership to its highest-ever level and the biggest problem the club has is congestion, with the number of boats on the river.
Suffice to say that the blue and white vertical stripes of Clonmel Rowing Club look set to be a feature at Irish regattas for many years to come.
