Clonmel boxer Kaysie Joyce
Boxer Kaysie Joyce underlined her consistency last year by winning her second European bronze medal in a row.
Fighting in the European Junior Championships in Bosnia and Herzegovina, she produced a tremendous performance to get the better of Agata Stajcer of Croatia. She looked as if she would return home empty-handed when she was behind after the first two rounds, but pulled out all the stops in the third round to get the verdict.
The Clonmel light-welterweight gave her all against European champion Rihanna Holden from England but was beaten in their 63kgs semi-final.
Nevertheless, her third place finish was ample consolation and a fine addition to the bronze medal that she won at the European schools championships the previous year.
Kaysie proved that her place secured on the podium at the European event was no fluke, as she collected her sixth national title in a row during the year.
She qualified for the European championships by boxing out of her age group to win the Irish Cadet Championship (Under 15 and Under 16) and also won the national Girls 4, Under 15 crown.
Kaysie's achievements in 2024 earned her an Annerville sports award, which will be presented by the Tipperary United Sports Panel at its annual function at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel on Saturday night January 25.
Tickets for the event are available from Sports Panel member Ken Conway, email conwayken@eircom.net
