There are just days to go before the start of the WDF World Cup in South Korea, where Republic of Ireland men’s captain and Nenagh-native Stephen Rosney is gearing up to take on the top international competitors.
Rosney, who is originally from Nenagh, County Tipperary but represents Offaly competitively, will lead the Irish team into the prestigious international competition. At 30 years of age, he is currently ranked number one in Ireland for the 2024/25 season and holds 61st place in the WDF UK/Ireland rankings.
His rise to the captaincy has been marked by a string of impressive victories. Rosney won the Irish Masters in 2024 and followed up earlier this year with the Island International title. Most significantly, in April, he captured the INDO Irish Singles crown at the Shearwater Hotel in Ballinasloe, a win that secured his number one spot and guaranteed his place at the World Cup.
Rosney now captains a four-man Irish squad bound for South Korea, where they will test themselves against the best players from across the globe.
