The second day of the County Juvenile Cross Country Championships took place on Donal Hayes’s land at the Turnpike where the underfoot conditions were very good despite the cold and inclement weather. The Club was represented in 10 of the 12 Juvenile races which was great to see; hopefully we can build on that and have teams in all age groups as the team competition in Cross Country is a great event. We got the day off to a flyer when Gretta Nugent opened her Cross Country season with a great performance in the Girls under 9 race. She was always in the leading group and turning for home Gretta kept the tempo going all the way to the line to win the Silver medal on her Cross Country debut for the Club. Maedbh Mulcahy 17th, Megan Hurley 29th, Sarah Quirke 31st, Emily Condon 37th, Lauryn O’Flynn 46th, Isobel Hurley 47th and Rachel Lauhoff 50th. Then we had the Boys Under 9 race and here Charlie Barlow ran very well when finishing 4th with Jonas Nyberg 7th and Charlie O’Connor 32nd.

In the Girls under 19 Maedbh Moynihan ran very well when winning the race impressively, great to see Maedbh running so well to capture her first Individual Cross Country title. In the Boys under 19 race the Club had a clean sweep of the medals with victory going to Michael Carey, Silver performance by Evan Egan and Aidan Cremmins winning the Bronze medal, this trio also won the Gold medals.

The County Intermediate Cross Country Championships took place in good conditions last Sunday at the Turnpike. In the Ladies race Aine Roche ran well when winning the Bronze medal. This was Aine’s first Cross Country race this season and she is bound to improve as the season progresses. Johanna Lacy ran very well when finishing 4th and Johanna has shown great progress in her first Cross Country season. Catherine Rice was 5th and along with Aine and Johanna won the inter Club title.

In the Men’s race it was great to see the Club entering two teams. Right from the start both Kevin and William Maunsell were in the leading group. Then on the 2nd lap Kevin moved into 2nd place and disputed the lead with Kevin Moore for most of the trip. Then on the final run in Kevin was edged out of the Gold medal. This was Kevin’s first outing over the grass and on this performance he is sure to improve as the season progresses. William also ran well when finishing 4th. This race also saw a very good performance from Paudie O’Keeffe 14th in only his 2nd Cross Country race, Gerard O’Loughlin 17th, Neil Fox 18th, Jimmy McHugh 19th.
