Clonmel’s Angela McCann storms to victory in Limerick

Clonmel’s Angela McCann won the Limerick Marathon on Sunday in 2 hours 57 mins 13 secs when finishing 17th overall. This was great running by Angela who also won this event last year.

In the half marathon James Denn making his debut for the Clonmel Club ran very well when finishing 98th in 93 mins 9 secs. Graham O’Regan also ran very well when finishing 179th in 98 mins 24 secs. Another man to dip under the 100mins for the distance was Ivan Barlow who ran well when finishing 220th in 99 mins 43 secs. Then we had Edel Roche also making her Club debut running very well when finishing 241st in 100 mins 54 secs. Marianne Kennedy also ran well and those long runs on Friday nights paid off when finishing 343rd in 105:11. Anne Marie Keating also making her debut in this event ran very well when finishing 960th in 120:04 while Edwena O’Connell also ran well when 684th in 113:58. Then we had Leah Skelly, a newcomer to the sport and her debut over this distance ran very well when finishing 1690th in 151:56. These athletes now a target to beat in 14 weeks time when the Boston Scientific Half Marathon takes place in Clonmel on Sunday 18th August.

There was also a 10K in this series of races and here we saw good performances from Kate Hassett who was 1246th in 53:32, Mary O’Neill 2222nd in 59:04 and Paula Morrissey 2361st in 59:52.

Paudie O’Connor wins 6k road race

The Duncannon road races took place last weekend and Clonmel had some great performances. In the 6k Paudie O’Connor ran a great race when winning in 23 mins 1 sec, the Monday nights pace sessions at the Track stood to Paudie especially when the pressure came on over the closing stages, as he was able to increase the tempo to win convincingly. We also saw good running from Eoin McCarthy and Tony McCarthy with both of them finishing in 29 mins 11 secs. Paula McCarthy also ran very well when finishing 4th lady in 29:43 with Denise Fleming 36:10, Lauren O Connor 36:10 and Ellen O Connor 38:23. Then in the 12k event Conor Fleming also ran very well when finishing 2nd in 46 mins 42 secs.

Brilliant performances in RUN4Fun event

The Club promoted a very successful 4 mile Road Race in Cahir last week which was very generously sponsored by Morrison BMW Cahir. The race attracted 458 athletes and nearly 3000 Euros was raised for South Tipp Hospice, a very worthy cause. The Club would like to thank everyone, Gardai, Civil Defence, Morrison BMW staff, Karen Ryan and her team of Physios as well as our Club stewards for ensuring the event was such a success with Sergiu Ciobanu of Clonliffe Harriers winning in a superb 19 mins 16 secs, having gone through half way in 9 mins 38 secs. . It was great to see Club members running so well.
