Great performances in All Ireland cross country championships

The All Ireland Juvenile Age group Cross Country Championships took place in very demanding conditions in Gransha Park, Derry recently. It snowed very heavily, more like a blizzard, during the Juvenile programme. Great credit must go to all the parents who travelled such a journey in such demanding conditions.

In the Girls Under 16 race the Club was well represented. Orlaith Moynihan put in a great performance in such conditions when finishing 15th. She was closely followed across the finishing line by Clare Horgan who ran very well when finishing 25th. Aoife Laste also ran very well when finishing 33rd. Laura Tobin and Meadbh Moynihan also put in two very good performances when finishing 70th and 83rd respectively. They combined very well in what was a very competitive team event to finish 5th while the County team finished a close 4th. Both Orlaith and Clare were on the Munster team that won the Bronze medals.

In the Boys Under 18 race which was combined with the Junior Men's race over 6000m we had Sean Tobin competing. Sean went with the early pace which was set by a group that included some Juniors and was well in contention going out on the last lap. Then over a hectic last 800m Sean gave it everything but was edged out over the closing stages to finish 5th. This was a very competitive race as it was the trial to pick the top six Juniors for the upcoming European Junior Cross Country Championships in Portugal. This was a tough test and Sean will have learned a lot from this experience. Sean led the Munster team to Silver medals.

In the Girls Under 18 Cliona Doyle ran well when finishing 35th despite the demanding conditions.
