Ryan improves to win in style

Ballingarry was the venue last Sunday for the County Master Road Championships. In the Ladies 6k race Una Redfern ran very well when winning the over 45 Bronze medal in 27mins 26 secs. In the Men’s race David Ryan ran a great race when coming home a very convincing winner in 19 mins 29 secs, 20 secs faster than his performances over the course last year. Then we had Paudie O’Keeffe winning the over 40 Bronze medal in 20 mins 37 secs. Conor Fleming and Gary Grant were 15th (22:14) and 16th (22:23) respectively and these four athletes combined very well to win the Inter Club over 35 Silver medals. Then we had good performances also from John Walsh 22nd 22:50, Brian Carroll 25th 23:26 improving greatly on his 2012 performance over this course of 24:52, Mark Corcoran 32nd 24:34, Noel Prendergast 38th 25:11 improving by 50 secs on last year’s run and Donal Casey 41st in a new PB of 25:3. Our over 50 team also ran very well with Billy Prout 34th in 24:42, John Laste 37th 25:01 and Maurice Boland 40th in 25:24. These three athletes combined well to win the inter Club Bronze medals. Then we had Ned O Brien 43rd in 25:51, great to see Ned back competing again after a lay off due to injury, Joe Grinsell who was 2nd over 60 in 28:17 and Myles McHugh who also ran very well when finishing 3rd over 65 in 29:47.

Paris Marathon

This Classic event took place last Sunday with Dick O’Gorman finishing in 3 hours 50 mins 40 secs. Miriam O’Gorman also carryied the Club Colours with distinction when finishing in 3 hours 58 mins 31 secs.


On Wednesday May 1 the Club will promote the RUN4FUN 4mile Road race in Cahir starting at 7.30pm. The Club is very grateful to Morrison BMW Cahir for sponsoring this event and a donation will be made to South Tipp Hospice for every participant, so the more participants that participate the more funds this worthy cause will receive. While there is a competitive edge to this race with prizes for the 1st 2 Senior Men and Women as well as the 1st 2 Master women over 35 and Master men over 40, there is also a Lucky Dip draw for down the field finishers with a difference. Here there will be an Open Draw on finishing positions with one Lucky winner winning 100 Euros while there will be other generous Cash prizes to be won,. These prizes will be spread right down through the whole race, so everyone has a chance of winning so if you are not in, you won’t win.
