Last weekend Ballykisteen celebrated our President’s Prize and our very popular President Tom Crosse had a huge turnout for his first year as President of the Club.
Tom arrived at the course at 7.20am to see off the early starters and continued to welcome members and visitors throughout the day.
This stableford competition from Blue tees was always going to be challenging and with back pin positions and weather deteriorating throughout the day scoring was going to be difficult.
The top 12 scores to qualify for the 9 hole playoff were John Hughes, John O’Connell, Denis Ryan and Dave Kavanagh all with 40 pts, Pat Irwin with 39 pts, Christopher Ryan, Arthur Ryan, Alan Dunphy, John Hoare, Martin Maher and Joe Lehart all with 38 pts and Neil O’Malley with 37 pts.
The pressure and damp conditions seem to get to a few in the playoff but it was the experienced Denis Ryan that played steady golf throughout the front 9 that saw him maintain the lead for a well deserved victory.
Full result: 1st Denis Ryan with combined score of 62Pts followed by Dave Kavanagh in 2nd with 59 pts, Arthur Ryan in 3rd with 58 pts. Category 1 was won by Pat Irwin, Category 2 by John Hughes and Category 3 by Neil O’Malley.
Best Visitor on the day was Tom’s son Paul with 39 pts. The Junior President’s prize was won by Gavin Downey with while the Ladies Competition saw Margo O’Doherty win out with 17 pts.
Everyone gathered in the Ballykisteen Hotel on Saturday evening where there was lively banter, food, and of course the prize giving ceremony which included the prizes for the August Monthly Medal which was kindly sponsored by Marian Riordan Pro shop, Ballykisteen. Then we had Tom’s President’s prize presentation and in his speech Tom thanked all members that made his day so enjoyable and also his extended family and friends that were joining him to celebrate his day and a special birthday party he was hosting. No details are available to print but I believe a memorable night was had by all.
