Last Tuesday 44 Slievenamon ladies enjoyed our Lady Captain Chris Hayes’s outing to the famous Kildare Smurfit course.

Ann Delahunty, Alma Gleeson, Margaret Comerford and Angela Sheehan rose to the challenge and took the honours in our champagne scramble with 76 points.

In second place with 71 points were Norma O’Brien, Chris Hayes, Marian Power and Kathy Cleary. Helen Clinton was nearest the pin on the very difficult 8th green, while Ann O’Dea had the longest drive on the 18th with her trusty 4 iron.  A scrumptious meal in Harte’s restaurant Kildare on our way home put the finishing touches to a memorable day. Eat your heart out Mark Twain!

In our home competitions Chris Hayes (30) won the 14 hole monthly with 27pts. Gabrielle Schofield (36) took second prize with 26pts and Phil Kelleher (31) came 3rd with 25pts the 18 hole monthly was also a very close competition. Joan Morrissey (28) won with 39 pts followed by Carmel Condon (27) on 36 pts and Mary Kenrick (16) on 34pts. We wish Mary a speedy recovery and a quick return to golf.
Despite many local attractions we had a great turnout for the 18 hole stroke Carrigan Trophy on Sunday 11th. Phil Whyte was the very popular winner with 66 nett. Marian Power came 2nd with the same score and Joan Morrissey finished 3rd with 67 nett and Mary Comerford took the gross. Front 9 honours went to Eileen Noonan and back 9 to Helen Clinton.
Our President’s Prize is on Sunday 1st September. The format will be 18 hole singles stableford. The time sheet is now available.

Jack Alton (7) and Michael Dunlea (21) both finished with 61 net in the Monthly Medal competition last weekend. Jack had the better back 9 but as a junior was not entitled to win a major competition and so had to settle for second place so Michael is our August Monthly Medal winner. Denis Burke (5) won the gross prize with a score of 69 strokes. Young Rowan O’Neill (13) continued his good form in finishing third with 62 net.

Matthew Connolly (6) who is playing great golf at the moment was the winner of our weekly Open singles with 45pts and in doing so set a new course record. Patrick Morrissey (8) was second with 39 pts and Gerard Hogan (6) finished third. The gross prize was won by Andrew McCormack (2). The three qualifiers this week for the final of the Clonmel Oil Open singles in September are David Corbett, Anthony Wynne and Brian Burke.
