Carrick charity Swim: Last Saturday Carrick Tri Club hosted their Charity swim to raise money for the Hospice. There was a huge turn out for the event which gave people an opportunity to try our the river before the main triathlon event on the 10th. The swim was open to anyone with a wet suit. It started with the Junior Event which was hotly contended. Each Junior had to be accompanied by an adult during the swim, so parents were put under pressure to swim as fast as their kids and not to embarrass the kids too much, a tough challenge for any parent. Then we were onto the main event, the Senior race of 500m, 750m and 1500m. The river was flowing fast and the first 500m was an all out sprint, everyone got out of the water a little drained and once we had walked the 750m back up the river to start the next swim, everyone was that little bit more tired so the race was at a more relaxed pace. The 1500m was more of a challenge, as everyone was aware that there was a very shallow section in the river that some people had to walk over at the start of the earlier race, so river awareness and race tactics were heavily employed by all. The day was finished off with a BBQ for all, and almost everyone getting to take home a prize. A great day out and hopefully precursor to an even better triathlon day on July 10th. See you all there.
