Last Wednesday evening, the county 10 mile championship road race was staged in Ballynonty, where a large number of athletes went to the start line. In fourth place, over the finish line was Ross Alexander with a marvellous run, with a personal best time of 57.33. Our second man home for us was Mike Carey, who was making his debut for the club, with an excellent time of 66.49. Then we had Tadhg Vaughan running strong at the end, in 68.38, and claiming second O/45. Close behind in a time of 68.53 came Leslie Smyth and winning the O/55 title. Andrew Smyth crossed the line in 70.50 and Martin Ivors took a large chunk of his previous time with a super run in 73.10 and going away with the bronze O/55 medal, which was a great effort. Jim McDonnell got around in 77.23 and was well pleased with that off limited training. It was great to see the club represented in the ladies section of the event with Helen Linane taking silver O/40 medal in a good 79.11. Well done to the host club for putting on a well managed fixture.
Our own Michael Cahill 5k road race will soon be upon us as it being held on September 2nd at 7.30p.m. with headquarters once again at the Presentation School, Ballingarry.
