Daniel Ryan, Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C. received a National Star Award for Best 2013 Tipperary Athlete at the Athletics Ireland Tipperary Crystal Juvenile 2013 Star Awards in the Tullamore Court Hotel on Saturday 8th February.
Daniel is currently in 2nd Year in the CBS, Thurles & in the past 14 months, he has twice represented his school & his country at the SIAB Schools Combined Events International winning individual silver in the Junior competition in December 2013. He would like to thank his school for all their support in 2013 & looks forward to representing them again in 2014.
Daniel has enjoyed great success in 2013 winning a total of 12 National titles across a range of events & 2 International Schools medals. He currently holds 11 Munster records (8 Indoor & 3 Outdoor, across Hurdles, Sprint, Long Jump & Combined Events), 4 AAI records (3 Indoor & 1 Outdoor in Hurdles & Long Jump) & 2 Schools records (East Munster & Irish Schools Junior Long Jump records). He aspires to follow in the footsteps of his neighbour & club-mate, Tomas Coman & gain the highest accolade in athletics, to compete in the Olympics for his Country & win a medal in either or both of his favourite events, the Long Jump & Combined Events. In the future, he hopes to go on to study Physiotherapy & coach juvenile athletes to help them attain their true potential. His idols & sources of inspiration in life are Iván Pedroso, Roman Šebrle, Jess Ennis & Usain Bolt. Daniel would like to thank the Athletics Ireland selection committee for choosing him for this award & to his first coach, Jerry Lyons who started him off on his athletics journey. He would also like to thank everyone who has supported him in the year gone by especially his wonderful family, mum, Aisling, dad, Jim, his sister Anna & brothers David, Jack & Dillon as well as his coaches (mum, dad & Stephen Fleming) & members of Moycarkey Coolcroo A.C., his physio Karen Coughlan, Cahir Physiotherapy & to Templemore A.C. & Nenagh Olympic A.C. for the use of their fine training facilities. 2014 has started well for Daniel with gold medal wins in the Boys U/16 competitions at the National & Munster Combined Events Championships & he hopes to have another successful & record breaking year ahead of him.
