Darren Williams is the ‘President’s Man’
Darren Williams rose to the top of a very tightly packed field when he returned a marvellous 42 points to win the President’s (Mr. Sean Callaghan) Prize by a single point from Pat Johnson Jnr on Saturday last.
Darren struck gold at the par five 9th hole which he reached in two and sank the putt for a great eagle and four valuable points to be out in level par for 21 points. His back nine was also a very steady 21 points for an overall 42 total and a one point win.
Pat Johnson Jnr - who was an earlier starter that Darren - led the field of 156 until late into the afternoon and his one over par total for 41 points looked unassailable - as the morning sunshine had turned to afternoon showers - until Darren brought in his score in late evening. In third place came Jim Meehan Snr off of 28 handicap and Jim’s 40 points was the best of a trio on that mark.
The long day was rounded off with the presentation of a wonderful array of prizes (to the Ladies also) - which included beautifully engraved Waterford Glass vases to the winning gent and lady.
The final choice on the menu was the musical entertainment and it was also really marvellous to see the President’s mother, Leisha - who we were told will shortly celebrate her 90th birthday - among the large attendance of friends, family and well wishers.
The Carpet Shop Singles Stableford
The inaugural sponsorship by the Carpet Shop, Waterford Road will long be remembered for the brilliance of the winner, Gavin Smyth who scored an incredible 41 points off of +1 handicap and equalled his own course record in the process. Gavin was three under par for the first nine holes which gave him 20 points and three under again for the back nine gave him 21 points for his 41 total. Gavin just edged out Eamonn Lonergan on the breakdown and Eamonn will surely rue some of the four bogeys he had on the trot from the 13th. Tony Cronin (11) was third on his own with 40 points and Mark O’Loughlin (4) amassed 35 gross points in winning the gross prize.
The Club is extremely grateful to the Carpet Shop for their wonderful sponsorship.

All roads lead to Mullingar for the Minor Team!
A hearty congratulations to our Cahir Park Ladies Minor Team who had a great victory over Kinsale at Ennis Golf Club on Saturday last, in the Munster final of the “Private Home Care Inter-Club Championships”. Our ladies played well in very difficult conditions, with intermittent heavy showers for most of the day. But even the rain could not dampen the spirits and enthusiasm of both teams and spectators.
Well done to the players, team captains, caddies, our stand-in team manager Margaret Hally, who could barely look at times, and all who made their way to Ennis to cheer on the team. Next stop the National Finals in Mullingar on 25th and 26th September.

Well done to all the winners and to Pat on his very successful weekend and for the fabulous prizes provided for the event. Congratulations to Chris Noonan who returned a fabulous score of 41 points on Sunday to claim Pat O’Callaghan’s Presidents Prize to the ladies. We had a huge turnout of ladies who were all hopeful of winning the top prize but nobody could match Chris’s great score. She was joined at the prize winning table by her daughter Joanne who came in second with 37 points.
