COUNTY NOVICE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The County Novice Cross Country Championships were held on Sunday the 7th of October in the ideal cross country course at Turnpike, Two Mile Borris. Conditions were good, but some what windy. We had 5 ladies compete over the 4k race. Mary Keane brought home the ladies team in 8th place showing that she is back in great form. She was closely followed by 9th Mairead Julian who always proves strong in cross country. Next was 12th Catherine Fogarty, 17th Laura McCarthy Armstrong and 21st Rebecca Lenehan . This was Catherine and Rebecca's debut to the Novice Championship and Rebecca's overall debut to cross country. The girls finished 4th Team just two points off of Bronze. They are in a good position with all 5 qualifying for the Novice B in November. The Men raced over 6k. We had 10 compete. Dermot Hayes ran an excellent race and fought for 3rd over the last 3km and opened up a big gap to claim Bronze in the last 2km. Next we had 4th Colm Bradshaw who also ran a superb race where he really pushed through on the last 2km edging forward in the field and fought for 4th in a sprint finish. He was followed by 11th Eamon Morrissey, 18th Paudie Coen, 25th Michèal Coen, 28th John Kelly, 31st Jim Hally, 38th Ruaidhri Devitt, 40th Stephen Ryan and 47th Noel Casey. Dermot, Colm, Eamon and Paudie won Silver in the team event. Michèal, John, Jim and Ruaidhri placed 7th team.
COUNTY JUVENILE EVEN AGE CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS
The County Even Age Juvenile Cross Country Championships were hosted by the Moycarkey club at the Turnpike on Sunday the 7th of October. We had 45 juveniles in action and had some great results. Our U/10 girls got us off to a great start with Sophie Moynihan having a great win and leading the team to the gold medals. Clodagh Kilmartin in 6th was next home with Belle Kelly in 8th our third scorer and Sarah Meehan completing the team in 20th. The other U/10 girls who competed were Saoirse coen 21st just outside the team, Aisling Carroll , Lola Nestor, Muireann O’Neill, Clodagh Ryan, Anna Ryan, Rebecca Ryan, Faye Luby and Sarah Shanahan. The Boys U/10 were next and we had nine athletes on the start line Harry O’Connor led them home in 10th followed by Conor O’Donnell, Conor Carr, Misha Nesteruk, Cian Buckley, Jack Ferncombe, Oisin O’Neill, Shane Hennessey and Daithi McCormack. The team was 6th. In the Girls U/12 we again won the team gold medals with Aisling DeCruis leading them home in 7th with Emma Kingston 10th, Niamh Buckley 12th and Mary Ellen Holmes 13th to be the scoring four. They were followed by Brid Quirke, Sarah O’Dwyer, Roisin Ferncombe and Ava may Ryan. We had five athletes in the boys U/12 they were led home by Darragh Hayes followed by Jonathan Ryan, Daniel Carr, Brent Astwood and Lucas Luby the team was 6th. Our second county Champion was crowned in the girls U/14 where Kate Ferncombe had a great win with Orla Ryan a fine 2nd with Millie Kelly in 4th and Paula Quirke 6th and Kate Guilfoyle 15th the team won the gold medals. In the boys U/14 Shane Buckley was a fine 2nd in a great race and the team with Tadgh O’Donnell was 10th, Cian Ryan 18th and Taine Astwood 19th won the Bronze medals. Aidan Skeffington did not finish due to injury. A great day for our juveniles and next Sunday we go to Moyglass for the uneven ages.
RUN GALWAY BAY
The Run Galway Bay was held on Saturday the 6th of October. Michael Moore ran over the Half Marathon distance in 1:32:13. Linda Grogan raced over the 10k distance and had a great race to place 15th overall and 2nd Lady in a fast time of 39:33.
SMRC URBAN RUN
The SMRC Urban Run was held on Sunday the 7th of October in Limerick City and hosted by St Michael's Rowing Club. Gareth McGlinchey ran a superb race over the 10k race to place 4th in 34:20 only 5 secs off of his own PB.
