'Farmyard in our Schoolyard' for Scoil Eoin Naofa, Roscrea

Fifth class pupils gather round the sheep pen

It was a very exciting end to the half term as we welcomed “Farmyard in Your Schoolyard” to Scoil Eoin Naofa. Each class had the opportunity to meet various farm animals and fowl, learn about how to care for them, what they eat and ask questions.

Most importantly they also got to hold and pet the wide range of farm creatures, such as hens, chickens, roosters, ducks, hamsters, rabbits and sheep. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The pupils in third class were also delighted to be invited to Roscrea Library to meet author Linda Chapman. Linda Chapman has written over 200 children’s books, many in the fantasy genre about unicorns, mermaids and magic.

During the workshop the children had a chance to become familiar with her books. She also spoke to the children about how she plans books and creates her characters. Our budding authors are now ready to put their new knowledge to use! Many thanks to Roscrea Library for, once again, organising such an enjoyable event. See also picture on page 34.
