Cashel resume league campaign with trip to Banbridge

Ulster Bank Division 2A

Ulster Bank Division 2A

Cashel travel to Banbridge in the County Down next Saturday, November 17, to resume their League Campaign.

You can feel a sense of excitement about this one as the League Leaders are a “scalp” this team desperately want to take. This one might have the feel of a “Cup Match” about it and a few extra in the travelling support would be really appreciated.

Cashel 3rd’s

The thirds take on Waterford City at home on Sunday next with a kick off at 2.30pm.

Cashel 5 Kilfeacle 12

Our U13s had a very challenging game on Sunday morning last. Our neighbours had a flying start putting 12pts on the board in the opening 15 minutes. The Cashel boys fought bravely and worked their way back into the game. Joshua O’Dwyer finished off a great attacking play to score just before half time, and with the score 5 - 12 at half time, our boys were ready for the second half.

The second half was very intense but Cashel’s handling of the ball at vital times just left them down.

Our pack played impressive rugby, rucking, mauling and with excellent support play but maybe at times taking decisions that on other days would have been the right ones. We found it hard to score but always played with passion, commitment and in the right spirit of the game.

Tom Dowling was very impressive in the forward line with Harry Tobin and Patrick O’Dwyer. Back line performed well with Joshua O’Dwyer and Ryan O’Sullivan showing well. Both the wingers of Tom Clarke and Brian O’Connor linked up well and on other days things would have played out differently.

This team have been under the guidance mainly of Brendan O’Connor since they were six year-olds. He has rugby conditioned this outfit excellently and is a credit to Cashel RFC and his players. Well done to our referee Raymond Davern on an excellent job and well done to Kilfeacle on the day.

Under 10s

Lansdowne brought the sunshine to Cashel. The Dublin side travelled in force last Sunday to support their U10s. A wonderful outing organised by local man J.J. Ryan (Gander) now with Lansdowne.

Both sides showed great enthusiasm with excellent skills on show. Lansdowne started in a blaze of glory scoring 3 tries in the first half.

Maybe it was the “magic water” at half time or was it what the three musketeers’ of J.D Spearman, Eoghan Lawrence and Dermot O’Brien, the Cashel coaches, whispered in their ears but Cashel rallied, and played a stormer for the second half. Joseph Lawrence scored the first try to narrow the gap.

Tom Downey scored the second to leave the last 15 minutes nail biting stuff. With little time remaining on the clock Luke Shanahan (playing like Keith Earls) finished off an excellent move to score evening up the score line of 3 - 3.

This was an excellent outing for both sides. Compliments to the parents from Lansdowne who came in force and were a pleasure to host. Afterwards both sides were served refreshments in the clubhouse.

A huge thank you to J.D Spearman ably helped by Shirley Lawrence and Elaine O’Sullivan. After Santa visits at Christmas, there is a return leg in January.

This should be a great experience for all our boys and well done to all on an excellent day.
