Cashel vs DLSP

Saturday, February 16, Spafield. Don’t miss this encounter next Saturday as some great rugby will be on offer.

Cashel Minis

Over 350 children took to the field in one of our East Munster Blitzes. We had visitors Galbally and Kilfeacle in opposition and a veritable feast of rugby was on display. Children from Under 7 to Under 12 participated with great enthusiasm. Everybody enjoyed their rugby and especially the refreshments in the Clubhouse afterwards. Well done to all involved for making this a great morning!

Cashel U10s faced a strong, well coached Kilfeacle in a very cold and muddy Spafield. Both teams were evenly matched for much of the first half. It was Kilfeacle however that scored first with a well-worked try in the corner. Kilfeacle went on to dominate proceedings with another 2 tries. Cashel to their credit did not give up and following a great run by Luke Shanahan and some good rucking by Alex Dunne and Ben Corcoran they got the ball back to Joseph Lawrence who scored a well deserved try just before half time. The Cashel comeback was short lived as Kilfeacle scored early in the second half and went on to win convincingly. Well done to both teams.

Under 11s turn on the style.

We played two strong teams in Galbally and Kilfeacle. First up was Galbally. Our boys got off to a flyer winning the breakdown and moving the ball out wide to score early tries. Our forwards plied on the pressure and set up the platform for our backs to finish off the game, running out easy winners. Second was a very strong Kilfeacle side. We started slow coming in at half time two tries down. Some reorganising was done at halftime by coach Murphy. The second half was a different story. We tackled and rucked much better and spun the ball out wide to our flyers on the wings and scored four unanswered tries. Well done to all. There were too many brilliant players to single out a few names.

Under 12s - Once again management was very impressed with this outfit’s performance. With five players on Under 13 duties, our remaining 12 players rose to the occasion. Galbally supplied the opposition and both sides provided and excellent game with plenty of encouragement by parents and friends on the sidelines. Our front row forwards of Luke O’Flynn, Seanie O’Neill and Luke Kevin were excellent.

Their work rate was huge both in attack and defence. Christopher Geraghty and Kevin Molloy were at 2nd row. Both boys blended well together with Christopher carrying ball into attack head on and Kevin jinking and showing some fancy footwork, side stepping etc. Cathal Ryan at No 9 is showing great promise learning this game on every occasion. Oisin O’Suilleabhain is making his mark at No 10, keep up the good work Oisin! Our back of Tim Hyde, Janis Stankanic, Kate Molloy, Sean Ryan and Jack Ryan all had their moments of magic. Jack and Kate were tackling well, Tim and Janis were getting more involved as the game went on and Seanie Ryan was throwing dummy passes for sport punching holes in the attack. Overall, this was a very encouraging display. A big thank you to all the parents! We are in the last chapter of this season and only a few games are left. Since last September, our players have grown in stature and have learnt some great life skills. We look forward to the last few Sundays and finishing the season on a high.

Michael Leamy

The trail of people that queued in sub zero conditions to pay their respects spoke volumes about Michael Leamy and what he meant to people. He was a quite man with a certain firmness. When he spoke, you would listen. We have lost a good one here and as we move on we will miss and remember him. Cashel Rugby Club would like to extend their deepest sympathy to Michael’s family at this sad time. “Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis”
