O’Donnell header secures full points for United

Carrick United 1 Hibernians 0

An Anthony O’Donnell goal ten minutes into the second half gave the home squad full point here. Suspensions and injury left the squad threadbare so they did well to secure victory. An under hit back pass gave Hibs a wonderful chance early on but the forward dragged his shot wide. Youth player Lee Grace went close for the home side with a fine header and Eoin Burke was inches away from connecting with a ball that flew across the goal. With opportunities at a minimum O’Donnell’s wonderfully executed header from a John Murphy free kick brought relief. The visitor tested the home defence fully as time moved on but it was the home side that came closest to scoring, substitute Michael Clarkson was inches away from a Bobby Landers cross and minutes later he forced a spectacular save from the visiting keeper.

Under 12 A League

Carrick United 0 Southend 0

On a perfect morning for football we had a Southend as visitors. Southend needed to win to stand any chance of winning the league. They started the game much better, pinning us into our own half for much of the first half, we were lucky to go in at half time 0-0. The second half brought a total reversal, even after losing our goalkeeper at half time. We took up where Southend left off, and played some fantastic football but failed to put the ball in the net. The game ended 0-0 but the second half performance from all the team was a joy to watch. Well done to all. Team management and all the boys would like to wish John Lyons a speedy recovery from a suspected fracture to his arm.

Under 11 A League

Villa 2 Carrick United 2

Villa came from behind twice in the game to share the points, their second equaliser coming just before the full time whistle. The boys played well in a most even game of football, the result maintaining their push at the top of the table.

Under 13 A League

Carrick United 5 Bohemians 1

This side also maintained their position near the top of the table last mid week. Beaten just once in the league to date, the boys played confidently to run out deserved winners.

Divisions 2 B & 1 B

Following good victories the previous week both sides went down to defeat at the weekend. The 2 B side lost 3-2 at Tycor and a depleted 1B side lost 5-2 at home to a strong Abbeyside Barry Walsh and Daryl Whitty scoring the home goals.

Youth B

This squad maintained the recent run of good results with a 1-0 at Stradbally.
