Cahir Park youths advance in FAI Cup

FAI Youth Cup 3rd Round

FAI Youth Cup 3rd Round

Cahir Park came from two goals behind at half time to defeat Nenagh AFC by the odd goal in five in the Tipperary Area Final of the FAI Youth Cup at Brickfields, Nenagh last Saturday.

Nenagh AFC with home advantage were expected to win this tie following some top class performances. The North Tipp champions were living up to that reputation when an Alan Sheehan brace gave the home side what looked like comfortable 2-0 interval lead.

Whatever words of wisdom were given by the Cahir Park mentors it saw a transformed side coming out for the second half. Cahir commenced their recovery after 55 minutes when John O’Connor headed home a Barry Cooney corner-kick. Then on 65 minutes Cahir Park restored parity when a speculative cross-cum-shot by Ian Flannery deceived the Nenagh ‘keeper.

Cahir Park who were dangerous from free-kicks and corner-kicks all afternoon produced the winning goal from yet another set-piece with just five minutes left. It came from another Barry Cooney corner-kick that on this occasion saw Liam Casey head home and produce a remarkable recovery from the jaws of defeat.
