A hat-trick from Daniel Rafter saw First Division Glengoole United qualify for the 2nd Round of the Paddy Purtill Cup after getting the better of Second Division St. Michael’s B at the Community Field, Glengoole last Sunday.

The poor conditions proved this wasn’t a great game reflecting the poor underfoot conditions and in the end a more physical home side survived. Glengoole United got the breakthrough in the 37th minute when a ball was slipped through to Daniel Rafter and he scored low to the keeper’s left. In the 41th minute Glengoole were awarded a penalty and Rafter scored his second to leave the half time score 2-0.

With St. Michael’s struggling to get back into the game throughout the second half they were prone to the counter attack and it was from one of these in the 61st minute that Glengoole put this game to bed. Rafter scored again to complete his hat-trick when a ball crossed in from the left landed at his feet and he tapped in from 3 yards to leave the final score at 3-0.
