Third Division Ballypatrick came from behind to eliminate holders from the Fourth Division Peake Villa B out of the Peter O’Reilly Cup by the odd goal in three at the Tower Grounds, Thurles last Sunday.

Despite the fact that these two sides were sitting at the opposite ends of their respective divisions, it did not show on the pitch with both teams going all out to get a win. In difficult underfoot conditions there were some fine football from both sides but it remained scoreless at the halfway point.
Just four minutes into the second half Peake Villa reserves took the lead when a well worked move ended with a cross into the box from the right that was headed to the net by Tomasz Rykalla. Ballypatrick rallied after this and we rewarded on 64 minutes when a high ball down the right beat the Villa defence, allowing Barry Kiely the space to control the ball and shoot to the net from the right side of the large area. Five minutes late Ballypatrick turned this game on its head when Kiely found himself in a one-on-one situation with a Villa defender and after getting the better of the dual he finished a fine shot to the Villa net. Villa tried hard to get back into the game and had a few chances, however it was not to be and the cup holders are out of the competition.
