A hat-trick from Barry Kiely saw Ballypatrick come from behind to defeat League Division 3 overnight leaders Vee Rovers and go joint top in this top of the table clash in Clogheen last Sunday.

Vee Rovers undefeated on their home patch in the league and looking for a fifth successive victory were on top in the early stages of the opening half and took a deserved lead on 23 minutes when Warren O’Brien dispatched a cross-field pass to the net. Any hopes of the home side extending their lead at the top to six points were dashed on 31 minutes when poor defending from a throw-in allowed Barry Kiely the room to restore parity.

After the changeover this game was still up for grabs going into the last fifteen minutes. It was a Ballypatrick that missed out on promotion following a play-off that were gifted another early Christmas present going ahead on 78 minutes. It was another long throw-in that left Vee Rovers defence in a tangle leaving Kiely the room to fire home with his second of the afternoon. With Vee Rovers forced to push forward in numbers the home were caught again in the 89th minute when a long clearance caught the home side flat-footed allowing Kiely latch onto the ball and dispatch to the net to complete his hat-trick.

This win sees Ballypatrick go joint top on 15 points with 6 games left. Vee Rovers remains on 15 points, with 7 games left.
