Munster Junior Cup 3rd Round
WILDERNESS ROVERS 1
ST. MICHAEL'S FC 5
Hat-trick hero Ross Cosgrave steered St. Michael's into the last 32 (open draw) of the Munster Junior Cup as they overcame the challenge of fellow Premier League outfit Wilderness Rovers in Clonmel last Sunday.
It was the only Munster Junior Cup tie to survive the icy conditions in County Tipperary. Wilderness Rovers were hoping to get the better of five times winners St. Michael's FC but were facing an uphill task when Ross Cosgrave gave Saints a 10th minute lead from close range. Jimmy Carr nearly made scored on 20 minutes but Declan Ryan turned his goalbound shot outside the post. Wilderness Rovers had a few long range efforts but it was St. Michael's that should have doubled their lead near the end of the half when Pa Quinn volleyed over from six yards out.
Wilderness Rovers half-time substitute Liam Wotton received a straight red card on 47 minutes and from that stage the Clonmel side were on the rack. The linesman flagged that Paraic Fogarty had put the ball over the goalline on 54 minutes to make it 2-0. Cosgrave made it 3-0 on 59 minutes when ghosting in undetected at the far post. An own goal from Paul Sweeney of Wilderness Rovers made it 4-0 on 67 minutes. With eight minutes left it saw ex-Fairview Rangers midfielder Ross Cosgrave complete his hat-trick making it 5-0 to a rampant St. Michael's.
Wilderness Rovers did pull a goal back for the Clonmel sideafter 86 minutes when David McSharry scored from the penalty spot, but it was just a consolation.
