Munster Senior Schools Soccer Cup
Rockwell College 5 Colaiste Cluain Meala 3
Rockwell College progressed to the semi-final of the Munster Cup after a high scoring encounter with Colaiste Cluain Meala at Rockwell College on Wednesday last.
Indeed the Rockwell senior soccer team have an impressive pedigree as this level as the team remains unbeaten so far this season and have now they finished top of their group heading into a historic Munster semi-final.
Overall Rockwell were deserving winners in this keenly fought game, however it was not all one way traffic.
An early goal from Michael Morrissey sent the home team on their way but a resilient Clonmel responded. The turning point came in the second half, with both teams even at 2-2, a well taken goal from Paddy Kennealy sent Rockwell ahead once again.
Liam Casey added to his impressive goal tally for the season to make it 4 -2, but an excellent goal from former Tipperary Minor football keeper Evan Comerford, normally noted for saving them at the other end, sent the score back to 4-3.
Despite good pressure from the Clonmel side and some great performances from the likes of Kevin Kirwan and Keith Fahy, the clinical Marc Silinas ended the tie with a calmly taken fifth goal, his second of the match, to send Rockwell through.
It was a very good team performance with solid games from the likes of captain Brian Quinlan, Stephen Quirke, Rian Boland, Mark Wallace and Cormac Looby and also critical to seeing the game out was the introduction of Charlie Stevens and Jack Kennedy who put in some very impressive performances.
Rockwell’s opposition in the semis is still to be decided.
