Power hits winner for Carrick United

Premier League

Premier League

Carrick United 2 St Saviours 1

An injury hit squad will be pleased with this win over a good Saviours side. The visitors took the lead after only six minutes, a cracking strike after a defensive mix up. Carrick were level 4 minutes later when an Anthony Power cross seemed an easy catch for the keeper but Ian Cleary made life hard for him and the ball ended in the net. Ian looked the most likely to add to the tally in a tight opening half. Carrick upped the tempo a degree in the second half but the game became a midfield battle with both rearguards on top. Ian hit the crossbar from a free kick before Anthony Power cracked home the winner with a wonderful drive from 20 yards. Carrick had opportunities to score again but were delighted to hold out for the three points.

Carrick will travel to Glen Celtic (Cork AUL) next Saturday in the 5th round of the FAI Junior Cup, kick off 2pm. The winners will travel to Regional Utd or Tullamore FC or Ardee Celtic in the sixth round

Carrick United 2 Villa 3

A disappointing result here following a tension packed game. The home side has the opportunities to force extra time at least.
