Clonmel Credit Union League Division 1

Relegation haunted Killenaule Rovers battling to stay in League Division 1 produced an excellent performance that saw them down promotion chasing Galbally United in Killenaule last Sunday.

In heavy underfoot conditions and with a strong wind both these sides went into this game needing points for different reasons - Killenaule fighting for survival and Galbally pushing for promotion. Killenaule started the sharper and with some quick passing they opened the scoring when Ger Ivors turned the ball past the Galbally keeper. Killenaule drove on and Ivers got his second after 15 minutes to settle the home side. Galbally were always threatening from set pieces and on the break. However, Johnny Grace finished off a fine solo effort and scored Killenaule’s third just before the break.
The second half expectedly saw Galbally pressure Killenaule for the opening 10 minutes with a barrage of shots that paid dividends on 55 minutes when Patrick Murphy fired an unstoppable shot from 25 yards. Sensing an opportunity Galbally kept the pressure on, but found the Killenaule defenders and midfield determined to hold out. Killenaule had their chances on the break to increase the lead and took it on 78 minutes when James Hickey finished off a well-worked move that was enough to secure the hosts the 3 points on offer.
