21st October ‘12, Munster Junior Cup, Clodiagh Rangers ‘A’ 0 vs Sallypark ‘A’ 2

Clodiagh Rangers ‘A’ exited the Munster Junior Cup on Sunday morning in Drombane at the hands premier league side, Sallypark ‘A’. In a close fought encounter, both teams adapted a conservative approach, and Clodiagh Rangers probably had the better goal-scoring opportunities in the first half, despite Sallypark forcing a number of threatening set pieces. With half an hour played, the home team perhaps should have broken the deadlock but for a superb reflex save by the Sallypark custodian. Neat build-up play down the right wing starting with Adrian Cooke in goal, and involving Paul English and Tommy Stevens, with the latter crossing for Ailbe O’Donoghue whose close-range volley was brilliantly saved. Clodiagh Rangers opened the second half as the finished the first, and again went close to scoring inside ten minutes. A right wing cross from Paul Doyle was headed clear as far as second half substitute Jason Forrestal whose first time volley was almost re-directed home by Tommy Stevens in the area. The Drombane side were made to pay for not converting their own opportunities when Sallypark opened the scoring just after the hour, with the left-winger springing the offside and leaving Cooke with little chance with a clinical finish. Clodiagh Rangers were frustrated in their efforts to restore parity for the remaining half hour with Sallypark defensively resolute. The visitors put the match beyond their hosts in the closing minutes with a decisive counter-attack goal to leave the final winning margin at two goals.

Clodiagh U11

Clodiagh Rangers 8 - 1 Holycross

Clodiagh U11’s hosted Holycross on Saturday last in Drombane. The home side were in top form and proved too strong for their neighbours running up a big score in the process. Sean Ryan (H) grabbed a hat-trick including a superb overhead kick which flew in off the underside of the crossbar. Luke Shanahan and Micheal McLoughlin both scored twice and the impressive Danny Slattery hit the target with a well struck shot from 15 yards. Holycross tried hard but their only reward was a goal midway through the first half when a powerful drive found the net from distance. Overall it was a fine display from Clodiagh with good performances all round. Team: Ryan Greene, Jason O’Dwyer, Paraic Ryan, Danny Slattery, Luke Shanahan, Micheal McLoughlin, Sean Ryan (H), Will Ryan & Padraig Ryan (S).
