Tipperary Racecourse will open its gates for the first meeting of the 2013 season tonight (Thursday April 18), showcasing the results of its €400,000 re-development project at the South Tipperary venue.
The recent investment has lead to a new entrance building, the relocation of the pre-saddling arena to in front of the Tipperary stand, improvements to the enclosure layout and the completion of the stable yard upgrade. This follows the construction of a 42-stall American style barn last year.
A new pathway has been installed to link the Limerick-end car park to the new entrance building, meaning customers can easily and safely access the entrance from both car parks.
The development will also include the installation of a children’s playground which will be located in the heart of the enclosure, close to the self-service restaurant.
Alterations have been made to the bookmakers’ ring which was part of the overall improvements to the surfacing and layout of the enclosure.
Commenting on the changes Jane Davis, manager at Tipperary Racecourse said: “We look forward to welcoming racegoers to the new look Tipperary Racecourse this season. We have had a great team including architect Healy Partners and contractors Arkenvale Construction and we are right on target for next Thursday. We have already received great feedback from the local community who have been able to follow our progress step-by-step through our social media platforms.”
The project which saw €400,000 invested in the racecourse’s facilities since January of this year was part-funded by the Horse Racing Ireland Racecourse Development Fund. Tipperary Racecourse admission charges remain the same for 2013. Upcoming events include: the Point to Point Evening on May 16; youth raceday featuring the R.A.C.E (Racing Academy and Centre of Education) simulator and the Front Runner Racing Club on June 6; the Pride of Tipperary Festival launch and Gathering on June 27; the Tipperary Festival Family Day on July 13; Summer Sunday Ladies’ Day featuring the Kevin McManus Grimes Hurdle on July 21; Fillies’ Friday Night Out at Tipperary on August 9; Thoroughbred Gathering featuring the Group 3 Coolmore Stud Fairy Bridge Stakes on August 22; Super Sunday on October 6; and National Hunt Season Finale on October 8.
