Clonmel student (19) to broadcast live for 24 hours in aid of suicide prevention charity

A Clonmel student is excited about taking part in Dublin City University (DCU) Media Production Society’s annual 24-hour broadcast in aid of charity next week.

English and Media second year student Ali Condon joins a team of DCU students who will contribute to a live-streamed broadcast from DCU’s Henry Grattan Building in aid of Save Our Sons And Daughters (SOSAD) Ireland from 9pm on Friday 1st December.

“I’m really excited about taking part in the broadcast for the first time,” Ali tells The Nationalist.  

“Last year the broadcast was in aid of the Peter McVerry Trust, a charity set up to reduce homelessness and the harm caused by drug misuse and social disadvantage, and raised over €15,300,” 19-year-old Ali continues.

The eight annual event will see DCU students involved in everything from filming to promoting the 24 hour broadcast on social media. “We had to submit ideas for TV shows, like quiz shows with panels, sketches, and I’ll also be in the background helping with graphics and things like that. It’s going to be really good fun for the 24 hours,” Presentation Secondary School Clonmel graduate Ali smiles.

Ali, the daughter of Yvonne and Paul Condon, hosts weekly chat show ‘Popcorn Culture’ with two of her friends at DCU on Wednesdays. She is proud to be supporting a suicide prevention charity that aims to improve the lives of people affected by depression and suicide.

“It’s a hard time of year for people with mental health issues, seasonal affective disorder, and people who don't have anyone at Christmas. It’s important to support charities like SOSAD,” she adds.
