Tipperary entrepreneur Mary Sheppard has been recognised as one of the Top 5 Women in Business in Ireland by the All-Ireland Business Foundation (AIBF).

Mary is the founder of Eyesight Opticians, a multi-award-winning All-Star business that forms an integral part of the thriving business community throughout the Premier County, with stores in Nenagh, Cashel and Tipperary Town.

Mary’s journey to success is an inspiring story of perseverance, innovation, and unwavering commitment to her craft. Her relentless pursuit of excellence has propelled her business to new heights, earning the admiration and respect of her peers and clients alike.

Named Tipperary Entrepreneur of the Year in 2023, Mary’s accolades continue to reflect her exceptional achievements and contributions to the business community.

Her recognition as one of AIBF’s Top 5 Women in Business in Ireland is a testament to her outstanding achievements and exemplary leadership.

Announcing the news of Mary Sheppard’s achievement, Deputy Chair of AIBF’s Adjudication Board, Kieran Ring, said: “The significance of being named one of AIBF’s Top 5 Women in Business in Ireland cannot be understated.

“It acknowledges Mary’s exceptional talent, leadership, and impact in driving business growth and success. This recognition not only celebrates her achievements but also highlights the invaluable role that women play in shaping the future of business in Ireland.

“Congratulations on this well-deserved honour. We look forward to celebrating your success and continued contributions to the business community.”

Reacting to the news of her achievement, Mary Sheppard said: “I am deeply honoured to be recognised by the All-Ireland Business Foundation as one of the Top 5 Women in Business in Ireland.

“This is a huge personal accolade which could not have been achieved without the support of the entire team Eyesight Opticians. Together, we have built a company that stands for quality, reliability, and exceptional customer service.

“I am immensely proud of what we have achieved and grateful for the support and trust of our customers. We are proud to be a Business All-Star company and I thank the AIBF for this prestigious recognition. It inspires us to continue striving for excellence and innovation in everything we do”.

Managing Director of the All-Ireland Business Foundation, Kapil Khanna, said: “The accreditation, which is now held by over 700 firms, is needed by the thousands of small and medium businesses which operate to their own standards but have nothing to measure them by.

“We evaluate a company’s background, trustworthiness and performance, and we speak to customers, employees and vendors. We also anonymously approach the company as a customer and report back on the experience. The business goes through at least two interviews and is scored on every part of the process against set metrics.”

The All-Ireland Business Foundation is an autonomous national accreditation body tasked with enterprise development and the promotion of Best-in-Class Irish businesses.

As the accreditation body for the Business All-Star mark, the AIBF recognises Best-In-Class Irish businesses. Companies that merit recognition based on an independent audit of their performance, reputation, and customer-centricity.

Currently, there are over 700 companies that are accredited by AIBF. Since 2014, over 5000 companies have participated in their programs. The AIBF also hosts the annual All-Ireland Summit and monthly gatherings to promote peer-learning and collaboration among its accredited companies.
