Dublin was the venue last Monday morning for the All-Ireland Half Marathon Championships. Angela McCann ran very well when finishing 10th Lady overall to win the Ladies over 40 title impressively in 81 mins 44 secs.
This was a very good performance by Angela as she was 129th overall and she also won the Ladies over 40 individual award in the race.
Club are County Champions as Paudie O’Keeffe and Eamon Crowley win County titles
Ballynonty was the venue last Monday, August4th, for the County Senior and Master 10 Mile Road Championships. Held in ideal conditions it was great to see the Club colours in great abundance. Many of our members were using this race as part of their build up to the Boston Scientific Half Marathon on August 18th. David Ryan ran a good race when winning the Bronze medal in 57 mins 2 secs. Then we had David Mansfield making his Club debut in these Championships and he ran the proverbial blinder. Pacing himself well over the initial stages, David got a good pace going as he approached Littleton and he was full of running over the latter stages to finish a very creditable 5th in 58 mins 19 secs, brilliant running. Then we had Paudie O Keeffe also running a well pace race when winning the over 40 award in 59 mins 41 secs when 10th overall. Declan Curley is another athletes improving with every performance and last Monday he again put in a very good run when finishing 17th to win the over 40 Silver medal in 62 mins 11 secs and this quartet combined very well to win the County Senior Inter Club 10 Mile title. Gary Grant also ran well when finishing 22nd in 64 mins while Larry Martin was 26th (64:18) and Mark Corcoran 32nd (66:30) and these 3 athletes combined very well to win the Inter Club B Section Gold medals. Mark’s performance saw him win the over 40 Bronze medal as well. Our C team of Brian Carroll 34th (66:40), Eoin McGrath 36th (68:26), James Denn 39th (69:38) and Cyril Fogarty 41st (71:14) won the Inter Club Bronze medals in the B Section. We also saw very good performances from James O Brien 42nd (71:36), Tom Bourke 44th (72:49), Jack Allen making his Senior debut for the Club ran very well when finishing 45th in 72 mins 57 secs, Billy Prout ran well when 3rd over 50 in 73 mins 12 secs. Dave Johnson 47th (73:36), Maurice Boland 53rd (76:54), Sean O’Dea making his Club debut in these Championships ran well when finishing 55th (79 mins ), Donna Nagle 56th (86:41) and Eamon Crowley who ran very well when winning the over 60 title in 90:37.
Wins for Evan Lynch, Laura Tobin and Una Redfern in Clogheen 5K
The Clogheen 5k road race took place last week and David Ryan ran a great race as he set the early pace with Tony Fogarty, these two athletes were still together as they entered the village and in a hectic sprint finish Dave had to settle for 2nd place in a time of 16 misn 27 secs. Evan Lynch, our International Walker, turned his attention to running and ran a very good race when finishing 9th overall in 17 mins 50 secs to win the Junior Mens award. We also had good performances from Anthony Tobin 13th (18:25), Gary Grant 16th (18:46), James Murphy 19th (19:04), John Walsh who was 2nd over 45 in 19:11 and Angela McCann 3rd Senior Lady in 19:22.
