Martin Shanahan completes impressive hat trick of wins
Our weekend competition sponsored by Pat Moore Transport was won by the in form Martin Shanahan (11) with a sparkling round of 62 nett. Not happy with claiming top honours for the last two weeks running, Martin produced some wonderful golf again this weekend to win the competition by a clear 6 shot margin.
Whilst many of the competitors were finding the going tough, Martin showed us all how it can and should be done with a marvelous round of golf. He played the first nine in just one over par with a fine birdie at the third and cruised through the back nine in just two over with another fine birdie at the last to polish off a serious round of golf. Three over par for the 18 holes was a fabulous achievement and is a worthy winner of the weekend competition. Winning one week is difficult but winning three weeks in a row is the stuff dreams are made of.
Another in form Martin (O’Driscoll) (12) was also featuring this week with a fine steady round of golf. His golf over the last month, like Martin Shanahan’s has been breathtaking and he made light of the tricky conditions this week shooting a fine 68, claiming 2nd place on a count-back. Two nines of 40 each was the breakdown of his score with a fine birdie at the 14th. It seems that unless your name is Martin these days, your chances of winning is slim indeed!!
Gross this week went to P.J. Coughlan (11) with a round of 82 strokes including no fewer than 8 pars on the day. Last man to the podium this week was the ever young Frank Corcoran (15) with a fine 68. Frank turned with 42 and was back in 41 for 83 for a nett 68, good enough to claim a well deserved 3rd place finish.
Golfer of the Year
Next weekend sees the last golfer of the year competition to be competed for. At this stage it looks to be down to within 3 men. Interestingly all three were among the prizes last week so will it be Frank Corcoran, P. J. Coughlan or Martin Shanahan that will be crowned golfer of the year for 2013? It will certainly spice things up and it makes for an interesting weekend of golf.
Good to see that our Captain John McGrath is home from his recent little rest in hospital and we wish him all the best in his recovery.
