County Junior B2N Final
Ballybacon/Grange 2-9 Rockwell Rovers 2-6
There were great scenes of celebrations on Sunday in the County Camogie Grounds after Ballybacon Grange won their first-ever adult title defeating Rockwell Rovers in the Junior B2N final by six points.
The Junior B2N grade was devised for this year’s league for new or recently new adult club teams. It was a unique occasion for both Ballybacon and Rockwell as they competed in their first ever final at adult grade.
The first half was very evenly contested with Rockwell Rovers ahead by the bare minimum at the break 0-4 to 0-3.
The second half began in a similar vein until Ballybacon Grange grabbed two quick goals from the in form Katie O’Connor.
In the 44th minute the sides were level 1-4 to 0-7 with Rockwell’s goal coming courtesy of Ciara Moloney. Ballybacon’s two goals however then swung the game in their favour and they never looked back despite great skill and fight from the opposition.
Rockwell Rovers can be very pleased with their performance with all the players stepping up to the task. Best on the day were Shelly Ryan, Laura O’Gorman, Bernie Bergin, Margaret McGrath and Clodagh O’Gorman.
Likewise Ballybacon had great performances all over the field from their goalkeeper Megan Lonergan with some dominant saves , the six back girls defending like trojans joint captains Alice Ryan and Cathy Ryan in midfield to the terrific forward line where Niamh Boyle, Aoife O’Neill and Ellen Meaher all kept the scoreboard ticking.
The effort and commitment shown by every player must be applauded as they drove on to record a six points win 2-9 to 1-6.
